COMMUNICATION IMPROVED WITH CLASS BLOGS!
During term 4 we will be trialling ways to improve communication links between students, parents, teachers and the wider Berwick Lodge community. The Grade 5&6 teachers are each starting a class blog where they write about their classroom events, news and learning themes. Each blog will be a reflection of the grade’s current events, activities, and work. Students’ privacy will be protected at all times.
What is a Blog?
A blog, or web log is a kind of website published straight to the Internet. While a website is often a one-way form of communication, blogs are two-way (like other web 2.0 tools) as readers are encouraged to contribute by leaving comments.
- blogs can be private or public (our class blogs will be public but the teachers will be moderating all the posts and comments before they are published. Only the authorised administrators will be able to post to the blogs.)
- a blogger adds content to their site by writing posts which are published in chronological order. The content can be text, pictures, podcasts or movies. Our class blogs could be a mixture of all these things but our readers will not be able to clearly identify which students made the contributions.
- the most recent post appears at the top of the page
- pages can also be created for more static information such as about me
This information and more is available on the DEECD website
Our blogs will be maintained by the class teacher with readers able to respond to posts by writing a ‘comment’. All comments will be moderated before publication.
Over the next couple of weeks check the links on the new web site at http://berwicklodgeps.edublogs.org to see class blogs for grade 5 & 6 appear. Please feel free to leave a comment. We hope you enjoy the opportunity to be more closely involved with your child, and your child’s learning journey at Berwick Lodge Primary School.
PHILOSOPHY
Mission Statement
At Berwick Lodge Primary School, above all else, we value our children. We recognise that our future lies with them and so to encourage our students to embrace “Learning For Life”, not simply as the motto of our school, but as a life-long process of development.
We achieve this through our core values of:
Excellence: Our highly motivated staff and stimulating learning environment shall inspire our students, ton continually strive to develop their skills and abilities and take pride in their achievements
Integrity: Behaviour that demonstrates honesty and consideration for one another and develops mutual trust, is reinforced by our teachers who are exemplary role models for our students.
Respect: All members of our school community show an understanding of, and respect for, one another as equally valued and valuable members of society.
Co-operation: The importance of co-operation shall be promoted through the on-going development of teamwork between teachers, students and parents, and the resulting friendships and sense of belonging will underpin all our activities.
